The Festival that welcomes all of Italy is back, opening the doors of the historical and modern headquarters of banks and foundations.
How to book your visit
On Saturday 5 and Saturday 12 October, Banca d'Italia is opening the doors of its headquarters, Palazzo Koch, and of some of its branches nationwide, as part of the "it's culture!" initiative, promoted by the Italian Banking Association (ABI) and the Association of Foundations and Savings Banks (ACRI), with a full programme of events, meetings, conferences and financial education workshops for schools as well.
You'll find a list here of all the buildings you can visit.
'Putting our values at your service' is the idea at the heart of the Bank's participation this year, with an in-depth focus on the history, functions and future of money, from the lira to the digital euro.
On Saturday 5 October, from 09:00 to 13:00, the MUDEM staff will be delighted to accompany visitors on a tour of the Bank's premises in Via XX Settembre 97/E, known as the 'Glass Palace', which was built in the years 1940-41 and has been used for many things over the years. Originally a department store, known as the CIM, a landmark shopping venue in Rome, it was then requisitioned by the Allied Armed Forces at the end of the Second World War, becoming the premises of the Alexander Club. Following a period of renovation that began in 1992, the Bank moved the headquarters of its Rome branch here; it is also home to works of art, such as paintings by Renato Guttuso and sculptures by Umberto Mastroianni and Pietro Consagra. An antique map of the city of Rome by Giovan Battista Nolli dating back to 1748 will also be presented during the visit.
On Saturday 12 October, instead, you can admire the magnificent reception rooms in Palazzo Koch, a place that has witnessed some the most important events in Italy's economic history and that has long been home to the Bank's various collections.
