The graphic novel produced by MUDEM, CNR Edizioni and Comics&Science
Students and comic-book fans are invited to the presentation of BottleCap held by MUDEM at the Salone Margherita with the authors Giovanni Eccher and Giuseppe Palumbo. BottleCap is an auteur graphic novel and an experiment in popularizing economics. It was first presented at Lucca Comics & Games with the event 'Comics&Science - The MUDEM Issue - BottleCap' on 2 November 2023.
'What is money?' is one of the hardest questions to answer for anyone aiming to make finance and economics widely accessible. Would we be able to do without an object/notion that is such an integral part in our lives? Money populates our imagination and is present in countless different stories, from the gold coins of folk tales, to Pinochio's five gold pieces, to Scrooge McDuck's Number One Dime. But it is also a difficult notion to grasp, as it becomes more abstract and dematerialized in electronic payments, virtual assets and digital currencies.
The collaborative project run by MUDEM, CNR Edizioni and the Comics&Science team seeks to raise thoughts around this question using new language and visual means that can also appeal to younger audiences.
An auteur graphic novel and classic counterfactual reasoning (closely related to ex absurdo mathematical reasoning) are used as a vehicle for popularizing economics and finance.
What would happen in a world where violence was routinely used to settle conflicts? And how could we rebuild peaceful social coexistence? Let's find out with BottleCap! And who knows that MUDEM's first comic book may not become the 'issue #0' of a new, long-running and exciting series?
