'The Adventure of Money - The everlasting exchange' comes to Naples: a series of events exploring history, numbers and the future

From April to September 2026, 'The Adventure of Money - The everlasting exchange' returns to the National Archaeological Museum of Naples. Following last autumn's series of talks at MAXXI, in Rome, MUDEM continues its journey across Italy, offering a new series of meetings in which money and finance engage in dialogue with the world of culture. Discussing gold, statistics and archaeology in a cross-cutting and multidisciplinary perspective, the programme brings together past and present, institutions and communities, ancient tools and contemporary technologies.

The series opens on 24 April with 'The Gold of Naples. Devotion, Money and Trust', introduced by the Governor of Banca d'Italia, Fabio Panetta, and the Mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi. The event explores the role of gold as a guarantee of value and stability in past monetary systems, its place in contemporary finance, and its enduring symbolic and devotional significance.

The second event, 'Trust and Record-Keeping: From the Sulpicii Archive to Blockchain Technology' (22 June, 5.00 pm), will explore the role of record-keeping - from antiquity to the digital age - as the foundation of economic systems.

The series will conclude in September with 'Playing with Numbers. Statistics as a Sixth Financial Sense', which will provide an overview of the statistical tools needed to navigate uncertainty and to make informed financial decisions.

We look forward to having you in Naples!
