From exhibition to publication: a study of the MUDEM model in the Journal of Behavioral and Experimental Finance

A study on the impact of 'The Adventure of Money', MUDEM's immersive exhibition, entitled 'Experiential Financial Education: Evaluating the Effectiveness of a Bank of Italy Exhibition' has recently been published in the Journal of Behavioral and Experimental Finance, one of the leading international journals in behavioural finance.

The study was conducted by MUDEM in collaboration with Banca d'Italia's Financial Education Department, and its results were previously published in the Questioni di Economia e Finanza series. It examines the impact of the museum experience on the financial literacy of around 600 students from 19 Italian secondary schools who visited the exhibition between October 2023 and June 2024.

The findings confirm the effectiveness of MUDEM's experiential approach. On average, students improved their financial literacy scores by approximately one third. The effect was particularly pronounced among female students, and the knowledge acquired also proved to be relatively persistent over time.

The publication of the study in the Journal of Behavioral and Experimental Finance represents an important recognition of MUDEM's commitment to research and innovation. It also reinforces the museum's role as an increasingly engaging and inclusive space for outreach, learning and informal financial education.
