Issue no. 11 of Imagines carries an article on Banca d'Italia's future Money Museum.
Knowledge and emotion at 'The Adventure of Money' exhibition
Following the conference 'Pecunia non olet. The Bankers of Ancient Rome' organized by the Uffizi Galleries on 8 September 2023, the new issue of the Uffizi's magazine Imagines, out today, features an article about MUDEM and the broader theme of popularising money and finance matters.
The article reviews the Money Museum as an ambitious project, amid a varied scene of new-generation museums, discusses its choice of format and range of media, and the way antiquity is in dialogue with the present within 'The Adventure of Money' exhibition. In recent months, this temporary exhibition at Palazzo Esposizioni Roma, has afforded a preview of one of the future museum's itineraries, combining an immersive multimedia experience of digital audio and video technologies with a display of authentic items from Banca d'Italia's collections.
MUDEM was conceived and is being constructed to embody a distinctive identity that will stand out in the international financial education scene. With a presentation strategy that seeks to engage the general public on themes generally perceived as complex, MUDEM acts on a sensory and emotional level (rather than the conventional logical and cognitive approach) to bring to life the remotest and more recent past as a key to represent and interpret current phenomena.
