Prato celebrates economic history with the 'The historian and the merchant. Federigo Melis and Francesco Datini' exhibition
From 11 May to 26 October, the Palazzo Pretorio Museum in Prato is hosting an exhibition called 'The historian and the merchant. Federigo Melis and Francesco Datini', a journey between past and present for enthusiasts of economic history, among other things, aimed at rediscovering the importance of history in understanding our times.
Curated by Angela Orlandi and set up by the Fondazione Istituto Internazionale di Storia Economica 'F. Datini', the exhibition explores the connection between Melis and Datini through images, documents, and objects that tell us about seven centuries of history.
The initiative celebrates the 70th anniversary of the 1955 International Exhibition of the Datini Archive, a key moment that inspired Melis to establish an international institute for economic studies. One special feature among the seven sections of the exhibition is the display of ancient Mesopotamian clay tablets from Banca d'Italia's collections, which date back to the third millennium BCE.
MUDEM is part of the scientific committee for the exhibition, which is the result of a collaboration with the Palazzo Pretorio Museum, the State Archive in Prato and the Galileo Museum in Florence and is sponsored by the University of Florence and its Department of Economics and Business Sciences.
