MUDEM at the IFFM Annual Meeting

Presentation of the study on the impact of The Adventure of Money exhibition on students' financial literacy

On 26 and 27 November, the Czech National Bank hosted in Prague the annual conference of the International Federation of Finance Museums (IFFM), of which MUDEM is a member.

The meeting, entitled 'Financial and economic literacy: Filling the gaps on the journey to economic well‑being', offered a rich programme of contributions designed to stimulate discussion on financial literacy. Among these was the presentation of a study carried out by MUDEM during the immersive exhibition The Adventure of Money, a preview of the future Museum.

The research - conducted with a sample of 599 students from 19 upper secondary schools in the Rome area - aimed to measure the impact of the exhibition experience on students' financial literacy through a randomised controlled study. Participating students completed a questionnaire on the topics addressed, both before and after their visit. The results showed an increase of approximately one third in knowledge levels compared with the initial baseline.

This contribution may be regarded as a pioneering study of financial education initiatives implemented within a museum setting and forms part of the broader debate on the effectiveness of outreach and educational programmes on monetary and financial issues.

During the conference, MUDEM staff also shared with the IFFM a video of the exhibition's most appreciated room - dedicated to the origins of finance in ancient Mesopotamia - and presented the museographic solutions adopted to spark curiosity and engagement with the key stages in the history of money and finance.
