A gold coin minted in 1923 and a masterpiece by Afro Basaldella, both from Banca d'Italia's collections, are among the works featured in 'Rome in Coin: Art and power in the history of the Eternal City', the multi-venue exhibition promoted by the Ministry of Culture and organized by the National Roman Museum, the Archaeological Park of the Colosseum and VIVE - Vittoriano and Palazzo Venezia.
From 2 July to 27 September 2026, the exhibition traces more than two millennia of Rome's history through the language of its coinage and explores the intersections of politics, economics, art and culture. The modern and contemporary section of the exhibition is hosted at the Vittoriano: among its highlights is a 1923 gold 100 lire coin, on loan from Banca d'Italia, in a display designed with the contribution of MUDEM, the Money Museum.
Featuring over 160 works, documents and digital installations, the exhibition takes visitors on a journey from ancient Rome to the contemporary era and the symbols of European integration.
