The Money Museum's commitment to accessibility and innovation
The Polytechnic of Milan's Digital Innovation in Culture Observatory presented its results at the conference entitled 'Alea IActa est. Culture and digital solutions: no turning back' on 12 June this year. MUDEM received a special mention for two accessibility and innovation projects enlisted in the 8th edition of the Gianluca Spina Award for Digital Innovation in Cultural Heritage and Activities.
The award is given each year to Italian cultural institutions whose digital projects bring significant innovation to their internal processes or to their services to the public. This year, MUDEM was a candidate for awards in these categories:
- accessibility, with the project on Italian Sign Language and subtitling devices designed for the upcoming Money Museum and tested during the preview exhibition entitled 'The Adventure of Money';
- innovation, with its project for a generator of virtual exhibitions that was used to create the virtual exhibition, 'Le Mille Lire', launched last March.
Being awarded this special mention was an important achievement for MUDEM, which intends to continue devising new projects for inclusion; it is also recognition of the fruitful collaboration with the Polytechnic of Milan, which started in 2021.
The special mention was awarded for this reason:
For using virtual reality as a means to expand the content made available to visitors, and for devising a technological solution to ensure that audiences with specific needs can enjoy full access to the exhibition through devices such as smart glasses, which provide ad hoc subtitles in the wearer’s field of vision.
