Banknote Exhibition

A collection of almost all the Italian banknotes issued since the Unification of Italy.

The Bank of Italy has been the sole issuer since 1926, which means that nobody else can print banknotes in Italy.

Thanks to this privileged role, the Bank has an almost complete collection of all the Italian banknotes issued since the Unification of Italy.

You can see the entire collection at the Banknote Museum on via Tuscolana in Rome. As you walk through the history, industrial techniques, equipment and designs, you can hear the distinctive and incessant noise of modern machinery as it prints new banknotes.

You can only visit the Banknote Museum on certain days because of the need to ensure security for this hugely responsible job.
