The Museum

The history of money and means of payment is told through immersive experiences, educational activities and anecdotes.

MUDEM, the Bank of Italy's Money Museum, is a project designed by Banca d'Italia together with Paco Lanciano, the Museum's curator, and Giovanni Carrada. It is due to open at the end of 2025 and will be housed at Villa Hüffer on via Nazionale, Rome.

MUDEM tells the story of money and means of payment, from the earliest basic forms up to the present day.

An audio narrative guides people through the various rooms, pointing out objects and documents of special historical or numismatic interest using immersive experiences.

Visitors will be enthralled by the unusual and sometimes dramatic stories that are part of the history of money and finance and will be keen to find out more.

A visit to MUDEM is an experience that is suitable for everyone and provides easy access to its exhibits.

The variety of services, educational activities and additional information, the special nature of the building and the recovery of its important artwork make the visit both interesting and highly stimulating.
