Workshops

Around the world in 50 banknotes

immagine di copertina

The workshop provides an original and stimulating educational experience, helping students to discover the cultural dimension of a commonplace object that is often taken for granted: the banknote.

Starting from a deck of cards illustrated with some of the world's most iconic banknotes, students work in groups and are invited to pay attention to the symbols, colours, visual details and clues in order to identify the country of origin for each banknote. Ideas are then shared and discussed together, prompting a critical and collaborative debate; meanwhile, an interactive map provides further historical, geographical and cultural cues.

The activity stimulates observational and analytical skills, and encourages students to work in groups, learn to negotiate and form an argument, enabling teachers to integrate elements of financial education in an interdisciplinary and engaging way.

The workshop is for lower secondary schools, lasts an hour and is free.
