The everlasting exchange. In the name of money: philosophy and economics

Auditorium del MAXXI, Roma
13 November 2025
6:30 PM

'The everlasting exchange' is a cycle of three meetings, set up by MUDEM in cooperation with MAXXI - National Museum of 21st-Century Arts, to tell the story of money's constant and unbreakable relationship with the main facets of human life: thinking and philosophy, beauty, art and its worth, and innovation, technology and finance.

What lies behind the forms taken by money throughout history//over the years? How do the signs embodied in money work? What is that turns a piece of paper or metal or some digital data into money?

These are the questions at the heart of the first event, 'In the name of money: philosophy and economics', scheduled for 13 November 2025 at the MAXXI auditorium.

Philosophy and economics come together to decode the traces that have accumulated over time, allowing us to use digital currency as easily as our ancestors used silver coins. This is a conversation that weaves together history, philosophy and innovation, dedicated to exploring the meaning and value of money, with philosopher Maurizio Ferraris, from the Università degli Studi di Torino.

The cycle continues with another two events: 'Money and art: the enigma of value' Wednesday 26 November 2025 at 6 p.m. and 'From gold to the digital euro: innovation, technology and finance', 5 December 2025 at 6 p.m.

Free admission, subject to availability
